Cupping therapy is a complementary technique that may be integrated into your osteopathic treatment when deemed relevant based on your assessment and clinical presentation.
The principle involves creating gentle suction on the surface of the skin using a cup. This action helps mobilize the tissues in depth, release muscular tension, improve local circulation, and restore flexibility to the fascia.
This technique may be beneficial in cases of persistent muscular pain, muscle tightness, significant stiffness, or as part of recovery after physical exertion. Cupping often helps optimize and prolong the effects of the manual treatment performed during the session.
The sensation experienced during treatment is generally described as localized pressure or stretching. Temporary circular marks may appear after the treatment; these are painless and usually disappear spontaneously within a few days.
Like all the techniques I use, cupping is part of an individualized approach and is only proposed when it offers a specific benefit for your situation.
